Chapter 3 ~ A nice warm place for Tina
The Bells on the sewing shop door rang and clanked as Kenneth pushed open the door. "Can I help you?"The gray hair woman behind the desk asked shortly,Looking up. "Please Ma'am,Have you any deliveries to make today."He asked twisting his cap in his hands."I'll work fer' some small pay,Jus' as long as you want me to." She stood up and surveyed him through her spectacles, which were perched on the tip of her nose."How old are you,And what's your name?" He squeezed his cap again."Name's Kenneth Brykman an' I'm Thirteen years old,Ma'am." After surveying him again, and sitting back down,She answered:"Well,I suppose I could use you for a bit.My usual delivery boy has been down with some flu and hasn't been able to work for two weeks now.As you probably know, the deliveries are piling up.I thought they could wait until he came back,But it appears he won't be coming back for quite awhile it seems."She sighed and started rummaging through a pile of papers sitting on the desk. "Here's the addresses."She stated,Handing him a slip of paper."I suppose you know your way around the town?"She raised her Eyebrows. "Oh,Yes,of course,Ma'am."He answered. "Well,Each box has a number written on the side,So you can go by that.the parcels that need to be delivered are in the storeroom. To get there go through the hall over yonder and it's the door to your right." "thankyou,Ma'am.I'm very much obliged to you."Kenneth returned gratefully. The woman just answered with a short grunt. Within two hours,Kenneth had delivered the packages and returned to the sewing shop. "Is that all of them?'She asked as he approached her desk. "That's all the parcels there was,Ma'am."He returned,Removing his cap. "well, here's your pay then."She dug around in her small coin purse and produced four small coins."If ye come back again next week,I'll have some more work for ye."she handed him the coins. "thankyou,Ma'am."He nodded."An' I'll be by next week if I can make it." He counted the money in his hand as he strode down the street. "Ten pence!"He exclaimed."This is 'Nuf fer med'cen an a blanket fer Tina!Is this ever Jolly!" "What'ere ye so jolly fer,Kenneth?"Peter asked as he approached the church."I went an' worked fer' a Missus an' she gave me ten Pence!" "What doin'?"Peter exclaimed."That sure is jolly,But I's got somethin' better even than that ter' tell ye." "what?"Kenneth raised his eyebrows. "Well,Yer' not gonna believe me,but,I've found a place fer Ye to take Tina." "this time yer' trickin' me,Peter."Kenneth exclaimed. "No,I'm not Kenneth!True as the word!I ain't trickin' ye!Truely,I found ye a place an' yer to Take Tina there right off this minute!"
